sororal

from the Latin for "sister," this is the little-known sibling to "fraternal." Forms of it are seen principally only in "sorority" and Soroptimist International of the Americas (SIA), a service organization of professional women. "Sororal" could be used to describe all-women groups, activities, and friendships. Like other female-male word pairs, "sororal" and "fraternal" have developed along very different lines, with "fraternal" taking on many meanings, associations, and uses—some of them pseudogeneric. See also fraternal, fraternal order of, fraternal organization, fraternal twins, fraternization, fraternize.
