unless speaking of a brother, you may want sex-neutral alternatives: warm, loving, friendly, kindly, teasing, protective, sympathetic, intimate. In some contexts consider "sibling." Because the feminine partner for "fraternal" ("sororal") is rarely seen—an example of the discounting of female words—even women's groups have used "fraternal." The Degree of Honor Protection Association, founded more than 100 years ago, describes itself as "a fraternal insurance organization of women" and engages in "fraternal activities."
