sex reassignment surgery / sex change surgery
gender-confirming/-affirming surgery, gender-affirming/transition-related medical care. "Sex reassignment surgery" and "sex change surgery" are outdated, oftentimes offensive, and do not accurately describe what is a reclaiming of an inborn gender/sex. Don't use them unless quoting a trans source. Because surgical intervention is only one part of the complex, long-term process of transitioning, GLAAD advises journalists to avoid overemphasizing the importance of surgery to the transition process. General language is usually better than more specific terms that draw unnecessary attention to trans bodies and medical procedures. When describing surgical changes to a transmasculine person’s chest, use “chest reconstruction surgery” or “chest masculinization surgery” instead of "mastectomy."
