these sex-specific terms are acceptable to most people and are still widely used. However, the trend is toward using only the base word (fiancé). According to Art Krug (in the Portland Oregonian , "'Fiancée' is too stuffy.... I think I'll call her my 'intendo.'" See also divorcé/divorcée, feminine word endings.
