anti-Arabism

hatred, prejudice, and hostility toward Arabs may be expressed in slurs ("raghead," "camel jockey"), exclusions, incorrect information about Arabs, and negative stereotypes—in particular, when Arabs are portrayed as intolerant, backward, and violent, while positive aspects of Arab culture are ignored. As with anti-Semitism and Israel, hatred of Arabs is different from political opposition to the policies of Arab states. In the U.S., many people are ignorant of the distinction between Arabs and Muslims, thus after 9/11, Arabs have been viewed as potential terrorists right along with a biased group judgment of Muslims. Anti-Arabism has also been called anti-Arab bias, anti-Arab prejudice, anti-Arab racism, Arab-phobia, Arabphobia, and Arabophobia. See also Arab, Muslim.
