Women's lib and women's libber are considered derogatory, patronizing, trivializing, and hostile. Gloria Steinem says that because of the putdown implicit in the cavalier shortening, "and because of the vast enlargement of the numbers of women involved, women now tend to say 'Women's Movement' rather than "Women's Liberation' ... comparable to 'Civil Rights Movement' as a phrase."
