Tourette syndrome/Tourette’s syndrome/Tourette’s disorder
although all three terms describe a neurological disorder that appears as sudden, involuntary movements or vocalizations, prominent medical organizations such as the Mayo Clinic, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, as well as the Tourette Syndrome Association, prefer “Tourette syndrome.” Refer to it only if it is germane to your material and if you know the person has been formally diagnosed with it. Use people first language: “a person with Tourette syndrome,” “a person living with Tourette syndrome,” “a person diagnosed with Tourette syndrome.” Avoid the acronym TS as it is not widely known.
