sissy

from "sister," this pejorative word denotes excessive timidity. "Buddy," from "brother," is a positive term describing a good friend. "Tomboy" is often paired with "sissy," but since it has the masculine connotation, society is more tolerant of so-called tomboy behavior than it is of so-called sissy behavior. Our language lacks a favorable or even neutral term to describe boys who are quiet, gentle, emotional. Instead of "sissy," consider using nothing at all with this connotation. If you must, try timid, gentle, sensitive; weakling, pushover, wimp, doormat, easy mark, weak stick. See also coward/cowardly/cowardice, mama's boy.
