prayer language
prayer and liturgical language is being rendered inclusive in many temples, churches, and mosques in the U.S.; in 2015, the nation's largest Jewish movement, Reform Judaism, has adopted a new prayer book, with four versions of each prayer so as to offer something for everyone—traditionalists, progressives, and even those who don't believe in God (and it is more LGBTQ friendly). Works like Marcia Falk's The Book of Blessings offer prayers in English and Hebrew that avoid anthropomorphisms and the language of male domination. Most Christian denominations in the U.S. have addressed sexist and racist language in their prayers, readings, and hymns. In Canada, the United Church of Canada and the Anglican Church of Canada have produced nonsexist guidelines, and the pastoral team of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops has advocated a move from exclusive to inclusive language in official texts and also in the everyday language of the church.
