Nuyorican
emerging during the early 1970s to identify Puerto Ricans born or raised in the continental U.S., Nuyorican is used primarily to refer to the generations of artists and writers born or raised in the U.S.—regardless of whether they live in New York—who write in English or bilingually (Edna Acosta-Belén, in Wilma Mankiller et al., The Reader's Companion to U.S. Women's History).
