manned space flight

this phrase currently has no equally pithy and inclusive description of space flight crewed by both women and men. Circumlocution is one solution ("the space shuttle with six astronauts aboard"). In print, "crewed space flight" works well, but in broadcast journalism, "crude" will be heard. It is reasonable and comprehensible to speak simply of space flight. See also unmanned space flight.
