Lord's Prayer, the

some people feel the sex-linked words in this prayer ("Father" and "kingdom") are not sexist, but are instead theologically and scripturally sound and necessary. Others feel that the spirit of the prayer is in no way violated by replacing "Father" with "God," "Mother/Father," or another title, and "kingdom" with "dominion" or other synonym. That the word "Father" is even what was intended is doubtful. Neil Douglas-Klotz, who transliterated the "Our Father" from Syriac Aramaic, says that where we say "Father," the original was something like, "O Thou from whom comes the breath of life" or "O Thou, the Breath, the Light of All"; the words are neither male nor female.
