hysteria/hysterical
based on the Greek for "womb" (hysteria was thought to be caused by disturbances in the womb), these terms are used almost entirely and often inappropriately of women. For the medical condition, use histrionic personality disorder. For the noun use terror, fear, frenzy, emotional excess, wildness, outburst, explosion, flareup, seizure, eruption, delirium. For the adjective, use terrified, angry, outraged, irate, incensed, enraged, furious, infuriated, livid, upset, agitated, delirious, beside oneself, carried away, raving, raging, seething, distracted, frantic, frenetic, frenzied, wild, berserk, uncontrollable.
