migrant

this term, which has never been defined under international law, generally refers to someone who moves temporarily or permanently from their usual place of residence, whether within a country or across a border. Migrant workers are those who expect to be, are, or have been paid for work in a country in which they are not a citizen. Smuggled migrants, who have been legally defined, have certain inalienable legal rights under international law. International students are also classified as migrants. Instead of "migrant children," use "children of migrant workers." See also emigrant/immigrant, illegal alien/illegal/illegal immigrant.
