master/slave (computers)
primary/replica. In the computer (and a few other) industries, "master/slave" are longtime standards referring to primary or main and secondary hard disk drives. A few companies use "primary/main" and "secondary"; "serve" and "standalone" have other meanings, and have led to confusion. In 2014, the programming language Drupal came up with, and is using, "primary/replica." Others have followed suit or eliminated "master/slave" terms (Twitter and Python have dropped the terms from their code, and JPMorgan Chase is taking similar steps).
