fisher, angler, fish catcher, fishing licensee (for some legal purposes); fisherman and fisherwoman if used gender-fairly. Do not be afraid of "fisher." In the following series of -er words, "fisherman" would be the odd man out: camper, hunter, canoer, skier, runner, hiker, mountain climber, birdwatcher, biker, nature lover. "Fisher" is appearing more often in print.
