drug czar

ironically this term covers both sides of the street, legal and illegal. Its longtime meaning is drug dealer/chief/boss/tycoon/bigwig/distributor. But it's also used by the press as an informal title for the individual charged with "the war on drugs." A czar was always male, so the term is sex-linked. However, when a woman is appointed to the ad hoc "drug czar" position, she too could be a czar, unless people get cute and call her a czarina, which they probably will.
