clothing worn by indigenous peoples, native peoples, or people from other countries is often referred to as a costume when in fact it is simply clothing. Even when the clothing is more elaborate, as for rituals, ceremonies, or celebrations, it should no more be referred to as a costume than would be a wedding dress or band uniform or graduation gown.
