Columbus Day

a federal holiday since 1968 (although not treated officially as such in several states), the second Monday in October has been repurposed in a number of states and cities. Given that the arrival of Columbus and Europeans set off a centuries-long American Indian holocaust, the day is celebrated as Indigenous Peoples' Day in many areas. Columbus, Ohio, celebrates veterans on that day. Make no assumptions about Columbus Day.
