nymphomaniac

defined as a woman with excessive sexual desire, "nymphomaniac" is, in theory, paired with "satyr," a man with abnormal or excessive sexual craving. In practice, we hear "nymphomaniac"—or "nympho"—much more often (and used much less precisely and with far less justification) than "satyr." Mignon McLaughlin (The Neurotic's Notebook) defined "nymphomaniac" as "a woman as obsessed with sex as an average man." Unless you use both terms gender-fairly, choose inclusive terms: indiscriminate lover, oversexed/promiscuous/sexually active/insatiable/sensuous/sensual person, "sex maniac/fiend," someone who sleeps around, bed hopper.
