feminisms

some people ... will insist on referring to 'the feminists' as if they are one big indistinguishable lump (Rachel Fudge, in Bitch magazine). A guideline for all good speaking and writing: "Don't assume that any group is monolithic" (Vivian Jenkins Nelsen, New Voices in the Media). Some visible feminisms: antiporn feminism, anarchafeminism, black feminism, Catholic feminism, Christian feminism, cultural feminism, ecofeminism, equity feminism, essentialist/difference feminism, girlie feminism, individualist feminism, Jewish feminism, Latina feminism, lesbian feminism (also known as lesbian separatism), liberal feminism, libertarian feminism, Muslim feminism, neofeminism, power feminism, pro-sex feminism, radical feminism, socialist/Marxist feminism, structural feminism, Third World feminism, womanist feminism, and that perennial non-favorite, pseudofeminism. What all the feminisms except the last have in common is a commitment to challenge the notion that a person's gender should, in theory or in practice, be an obstacle to civil and personal liberties. See also feminism, wave (feminism).
