Jennifer Mieres

Bio:

Dr. Jennifer H. Mieres, FACC, FAHA, MASNC, an award-winning professor of cardiology, is internationally recognized as a leading advocate for women’s heart health, heart disease prevention, wellness and diversity in healthcare. Her passion is to educate and empower women to take charge of their health through education and proactive partnerships. Over the past 20 years, her efforts have been focused on gender-specific cardiovascular research and raising awareness of a woman-centered holistic approach to heart health and wellness. In her role as leader of Northwell Health's Office of Community and Public Health, Wellness, and as the first Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer, Dr. Mieres has the privilege of overseeing the organization's community health education, access programs, wellness initiatives and health literacy efforts to deliver culturally sensitive care and eliminate health disparities. A Board certified Nuclear Cardiologist, Dr. Mieres was the first female President of the ASNC in 2009 and is a national spokesperson for the American Heart Association. She regularly appears on a number of media outlets for her leadership on heart health including “20/20”, “CNN,” the “Today Show”, “Good Morning America”, and her book, Heart Smart for Black Women and Latinas catapulted her as a national spokesperson for women’s health and heart disease prevention. In 2003 she received an Emmy nomination for producing the PBS documentary “A Woman’s Heart,” and is currently co-producing with 10-time Emmy winning Director David Grubin, another PBS documentary "Rx: The Quiet Revolution.” Dr. Mieres is a dedicated women’s health advocate and prides herself on being a lifelong learner.
