Women under siege (and on the Web) this week
A Syrian woman sold her sister for $300 to survive.
Indians got angry about something called the “Assam Rape Festival.” (Thank God it wasn’t real.)
Then someone had to explain why rape isn’t actually more prevalent there than anywhere else.
South Africans got angry about “rampant misogyny."
The UN got defensive about appointing women to peacekeeping missions.
And the U.S. hung its head as reports of sexual assault in the U.S. military went way, way up.
As did reporting of rape/rape itself in Sierra Leone.
A male journalist finally asked: Where do all the angry white men come from?
Another journalist stated an obvious (and still unmet) need.
A battle was actually waged on whether “rape culture” exists.
And we ever-so-unfortunately spent a lot of time talking about anti-rape underwear.
