The Legacy of Jovita Idar: Video of WMC IDAR/E Panel Discussion

WMC IDARE JOVITAPANEL

A recent WMC-hosted panel on the legacy of U.S. violence is a deep resource for all those covering and writing about the southern border and immigration policy.

WMC IDAR/E, a new English/Spanish digital channel hosted its online launch event on The Legacy of Jovita Idar, a journalist and activist who more than a century ago denounced white supremacist violence in Texas and championed the rights of women. The panel discussion on March 10th, 2021 featured Futuro Media Founder/President Maria Hinojosa, journalist/essayist Michelle García and Professor Monica Muñoz Martínez of the University of Texas at Austin. Erica González Martínez, founding editor of IDAR/E served as moderator, with WMC Co-Founder Gloria Steinem and WMC Board Chair Janet Dewart Bell delivering special remarks.

WMC IDAR/E is inspired by the courage of Jovita Idar and showcases original articles, essays and opinions by Latinas, who, like Idar, are documenting and telling a fuller and more complex narrative of the U.S. story.

We hope you’ll join us in sharing the knowledge and analysis offered throughout this conversation, including the hard questions on the way the border is covered and perceived. For deeper dives into this and other topics discussed in the panel, please see:
