Support Women Artists Sunday: Pixie Lott
Victoria Louise Lott, better known as Pixie Lott (a nickname given to her by her mother because she was an extremely little baby), is one of the new and upcoming pop singers of today. This young and charming singer, actress, and dancer was born on January 12, 1991 in London. From the young age of five, Lott found interest in the arts and attended the Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts; as soon as she became a teenager she moved to Essex where she appeared in musicals such as Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Chorus Line, and the Sound of Music. However, it was her soft natural jazzy voice, her many covers, like Kings of Leon’s “Use Somebody” and Lady Gaga’s “Poker Face,” and her debut single which caught people’s attention. Her debut single “Mama Do (Uh Oh, Uh Oh)” had over 50,000 sales and went straight to number one (and stayed there for one week) in the UK Singles Chart in June 2009 and remained in the top forty for eleven weeks shortly after it was released. The song became so huge that it was recorded in Simlish for the beloved Sims computer game. Her natural talent has won her the hearts and ears of her many fans and the music industry, and both sadly and astonishingly, Lott is the first solo female artist from the United Kingdom to have her first single go straight to number one without a reality show’s help. Soon after the release of Lott’s debut single, she released her second single “Boys and Girls” and her debut album “Turn It Up.” As both a fan and music lover, I absolutely can’t wait to see what else Pixie Lott has in store.
