Deepa is an attorney who has worked on civil and immigrant rights issues in the non-profit and governmental sectors for 15 years. Deepa’s first book, We Too Sing America: South Asian, Arab, Muslim and Sikh Immigrants Shape Our Multiracial Future, was published in November 2015. The media should "keep its mouth shut" according to a senior advisor to President Trump in a press interview. With Trump's already shaky relationship with the press, this raises questions about press freedom and we FEATURE Dr. Jennifer Hoewe. Jennifer is an assistant professor in the Department of Journalism at The University of Alabama. Jennifer's research examines the social and psychological effects of media consumption on individuals' beliefs, attitudes, and behaviors as well as public opinion. Specifically, she studies the media’s ability to create and perpetuate stereotypes and in-group, out-group relationships. Jennifer’s teaching areas include media effects (psychology), news writing and reporting (journalism), political communication, and journalism/media ethics as well as the relationship between the media and politics, race/ethnicity, and religion. Media includes: Fletcher Forum, Daily Collegian, Atlantic Journal of Communication.
