Women’s Media Center 2026 Report: Gender and Non-Acting Emmy Nominations
For some 15 years, the Women’s Media Center (WMC) has researched and produced reports on gender and non-acting nominations for the Emmy awards. These reports have documented, in detail, the representation of women as nominees in every category for these awards and provided an analysis of the status and progress, or lack thereof, in each area. This new report, “Women’s Media Center Report 2026: Gender and Non-Acting Emmy Nominations,” adds to our understanding of where women are and are not in the industry. WMC reports equip thought leaders, journalists, activists, and academics with a wealth of information to demonstrate the status of women in behind-the-camera roles in Hollywood, as indicated by women’s representation among nominees of these high-status industry awards.
The Primetime Emmy Awards have experienced some big changes this year, but gender parity for the non-acting nominees isn’t one of those changes. New aspects of the Primetime Emmy Awards include no longer using the name Creative Arts Emmy Awards for mostly technical categories; relocating some of the categories from the main telecast to the lower-profile pre-telecast ceremonies that are livestreamed on Emmys.com; and altering eligibility requirements for some categories. What hasn’t changed is the low representation of women as nominees in non-acting categories, which has never exceeded 35%. This year’s total matches that high, representing an increase of 2 percentage points from the 33% of women nominees in non-acting categories in 2025.
