Carolyn M. Byerly, Ph.D., is professor emerita of Howard University and the former chair of Howard’s Department of Communication, Culture and Media Studies. She is a feminist media scholar whose books include The Palgrave International Handbook of Women and Journalism (Palgrave, 2013) and Women and Media: A Critical Introduction (Blackwell, 2006). She was the principal investigator of the Global Report on the Status of Women in News Media for International Women’s Media Foundation (2011).
