Amelia Maris Bonow

Amelia Bonow is the Cofounder and Executive Director of Shout Your Abortion (SYA), a nationwide organization working to normalize abortion and elevate safe paths to access, regardless of legality. In 2015, Amelia's abortion disclosure sparked a viral outpouring of abortion stories on social media alongside the hashtag #ShoutYourAbortion, receiving widespread media coverage the world over. Amelia has subsequently shaped this organic cultural movement into a transformative force in abortion advocacy and a major player in the nationwide movement for abortion access. SYA's website won a Webby Award in 2017 and Amelia has been honored by a multitude of abortion clinics, the filmmaker Michael Moore, the Abortion Conversations Project, and Lizzo. Amelia's writing has appeared in The New Republic, Huffington Post, The New York Daily News, Salon, and The Stranger; she is the coeditor of SYA's eponymously titled book (2017), and is the cowriter of Abortion is Everything (2025), a children's book about abortion. Former Planned Parenthood Federation of America President Cecile Richards told the Seattle Times that Shout Your Abortion “reflects what makes me most hopeful for this next century”.
