Support Women Artists Sunday: Robyn

Swedish singer Robyn has been releasing records since she was twelve but in 2005 when she left Jive Records, when they didn't like her new electro pop sound, to form her own independent label her popularity reached new heights and she also became popular internationally. This year she is releasing three records Body Talk Part 1, 2 and 3 so that she can both tour and record without long gaps between each other. The first two albums are terrific and have gained international critical acclaim. Her songs are sad love songs that you can dance to and a common theme is feeling like an outsider. I was lucky enough to get to interview her and I told her how I felt she was a feminist but it was almost an unspoken thing since it's so clear in her songs and image to which she said "Yeah but I’m not afraid of saying it either because I think that being a feminist almost becomes a thing like “I hate men” or something which is not true. I think feminism is for everybody, men as well and I don’t understand anybody that wants to live in a world that’s not equal whether it’s between men and women or different cultures or whatever it is." She's been touring the US with Kelis and during Don't Fucking Tell Me What To Do she doesn't sing, she eats a banana on stage. She's an absolutely compelling star.
