female CEO behind green efforts
New legislation was recently passed by the House (close vote though - 219 to 212) that seeks to curb greenhouse gas emissions and boost renewable energy use. The driving force behind the bill? Betsy Atkins, CEO of Clear Standards, a company that helps corporations monitor their greenhouse gas emissions.
The bill will cause companies that have massive carbon footprints to report their greenhouse gas emissions - those who do not will be fined heavily -- as much as $32,500 per day.
It doesn't surprise me that a woman was behind such a positive venture. Of being a woman in her industry, Atkins says "The sustainability field is very receptive and inclusive of women. I think there's no gender issue. In traditional energies such as oil and gas you do see fewer women in leadership positions, but that's changing. The oil and gas companies are trying to add diversity to their boards."
Good example of women making positive change, people. Now we just have to hope the Senate passes the legislation as well...because I sort of would like my grandchildren to not experience Armageddon. Just a thought.
