Press release: College of Social and Behavioral Sciences honors five decades of alumni
On Feb. 27, the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences gathered to honor its distinguished alumni, an annual tradition since 2003. For the college’s 50th anniversary, it honored an alum from each of the past five decades.
A surprise family member or friend introduced each alum, and the luncheon’s soundtrack featured popular songs from the past 50 years.
“We are delighted to honor this talented group of alumni from the college from the past 50 years of the college’s history,” said CSBS dean Cynthia Berg. “They exemplify the spirit of public service, innovation, and passion for inspiring solutions to life’s challenges that is so central to the college mission.”

An extract from Julie Burton's remarks as she accepted the Distinguished Alumni Award:
It is a good day when an activist is given a Distinguished Alumni Award – especially by the Dean of the College. I’m very proud of this award – and to be introduced by my colleagues at the Women’s Media Center -- Jane Fonda, Robin Morgan, and Gloria Steinem.
The University of Utah, gave me the tools I needed to navigate. And, as a result, I have built a lifetime of work trying to make a difference for women and girls so all of us can be seen as valuable, as smart, as independent, as equal. And, so we can all be visible and powerful in the media.
Thank you for this incredible honor.

As part of the 50th anniversary celebration, Julie Burton participated in a session with faculty and students "In conversation with Julie Burton."
