South Asia Project Director

Following the earthquake in Nepal that has resulted in more than 5,000 deaths, we FEATURE Samina Ahmed. Samina is the South Asia Project Director for International Crisis Group and overseas Crisis Group's work in Pakistan, Afghanistan, India and Nepal. She works with analysts throughout the region to prepare reports on the political, social, economic and military factors that increase the risks of extremism, internal conflict and war, and she makes policy recommendations to overcome these threats. After Loretta Lynch's nomination was finally confirmed last week by the U.S. Senate, we FEATURE Zina C. Pierra, a noted speaker and advocate on women's issues, policy and politics. Zina currently serves as the founding President and CEO of the Washington Linkage Group, Inc., a government relations and strategic consulting firm. She has extensive background in government relations at the federal, state and local levels and previously served for eight years in the Clinton Administration. Pierre has guest lectured on political, public policy and women’s issues at Georgetown University, George Washington University, University of St. Louis, Howard University, University of Maryland, Frostburg State, State of Georgia Juvenile Justice Department and abroad to women elected officials in East and South Africa.

As protests follow Freddie Gray's death in Baltimore, we SPOTLIGHT Dr. Christina M. Greer, a professor of political science at Fordham University. Her research and teaching focus on American politics, black ethnic politics, urban politics, quantitative methods, and public opinion. She frequently addresses issues regarding race and crime, and her previous work compared criminal activity and political responses in Boston and Baltimore. Dr. Greer has provided extensive political analysis and commentary for various print and broadcast media outlets including: The New York Times, Reuters, NBC Nightly News, Fox, and ABC Television.
