Neena is Director of Education and Senior Counsel at the National Women's Law Center, where she has focused on gender equity in education and health/reproductive rights issues affecting women and girls. Since joining the Center in September 1997, initially as a Georgetown University Women’s Law and Public Policy Fellow, she has participated in litigation and advocacy to enhance the legal protections provided by Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972. Leah is an author, historian, speaker, and Assistant Professor of Public Policy at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government. Leah is the author of The Loneliness of the Black Republican: Pragmatic Politics and the Pursuit of Power (2015), a book that offers a much-needed critical examination of the tense relationship that exists between African Americans and the GOP. Providing a thorough reading of black voting behavior and opinion over a 60-year period, Leah’s book also analyzes the ideas and actions of black activists, politicians, officials, and intellectuals that worked with and within the Republican Party. April 4th is Equal Pay Day and we FEATURE Latifa Lyles. Latifa was the Director of the Women's Bureau at the U.S. Department of Labor from 2014 until 2017, where she worked to advance and improve standards, practices and opportunities for women in the labor force. In this position, she led the agency's policy and research initiatives, including paid leave for working families and equal pay for women. Lyles also modernized the agency's outreach and communications operations. In collaboration with the White House Council on Women and Girls and Center for American Progress, she led the Department of Labor's efforts for the 2014 White House Summit on Working Families.
