Independent Journalist and Senior Fellow

As 3 Al Jazeera journalists are convicted to years in jail in Egypt, we FEATURE veteran journalist Geneva Overholser, a Senior Fellow at the Annenberg Center for Communication Leadership and Policy. Overholser served as the director of USC Annenberg's School of Journalism from 2008 until 2013 and, prior to that, held the Curtis B. Hurley Chair in Public Affairs Reporting for the Missouri School of Journalism. She was editor of The Des Moines Register from 1988 to 1995, has been ombudsman of The Washington Post, a member of the editorial board of The New York Times, a syndicated columnist for The Washington Post Writers Group, and a reporter for the Colorado Springs Sun. She has been a columnist for the Columbia Journalism Review and frequent contributor to Poynter.org. She also spent five years overseas, working and writing in Paris and Kinshasa. She serves on the boards of the Center for Public Integrity, the Committee of Concerned Journalists, the John S. Knight Fellowships at Stanford University, the Fund for Independence in Journalism and the Academy of American Poets, and on the Journalism Advisory Committee of the Knight Foundation.

With the welcome release of Mrs Ibrahim, the woman who was sentenced to death in Sudan for refusing to denounce Christianity, we FEATURE African women's health and rights expert Muadi Mukenge. Mukenge is currently the Regional Director for Sub-Saharan Africa at The Global Fund for Women, an international network of women and men who advocate for and defend women's human rights by making grants to support women's groups around the world. Mukenge is a sought after speaker, and has presented on African women's health, civic and political participation and human rights in Africa to audiences at the Commonwealth Club of California, the World Affairs Council, UC Berkeley, and various international conferences and media outlets such as NPR and Pacifica Radio affiliates.

Soma has the intuitive ability for identifying gaps in markets and developing new markets in those gaps. Soma has a BE is Civil Engineering from Bengal Engineering and Science University, India; and a MS in Environmental Engineering from University at Buffalo (SUNY), and has over 14 years of experience in design, construction, and operation of water, wastewater, ultra-pure, and recycled water treatment plants and conveyance systems.
