Debbie Hines is a Washington, DC based practicing trial attorney, former Maryland prosecutor and member of the Supreme Court bar who is an expert in criminal law, high profile criminal cases, gun laws, death penalty cases and voting laws. We FEATURE Debbie to explore the upcoming high-profile cases at the Supreme Court, including issues of the separation of church and state, abortion, and campaign finance. She often addresses legal issues at the intersection of race and crime. As a former felony prosecutor, she tried homicides, attempted murders, rapes, burglaries, robberies, narcotics and economic crimes before juries with a high conviction rate.

Avis A. Jones-DeWeever, Ph.D. is the Director of the Research, Public Policy, and Information Center for African American Women. We FEATURE Dr. Jones-DeWeever in response to the new controversial voting law that will require North Carolina residents to show a photo ID at polling places. The RPPI Center is a research/action institute based at the National Council of Negro Women which seeks to inform, catalyze and mobilize African American women for change in both the policy arena and throughout the broader cultural dynamic.

In celebration of LGBT History Month, we FEATURE Rea Carey, executive director of the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, one of the most prominent leaders in the U.S. lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) rights movement. Carey, who came to the Task Force in 2004 as deputy executive director, has served as executive director since 2008. Through her leadership, she has advanced a vision of fairness and justice for LGBT people and their families that is broad, inclusive and unabashedly progressive.
