In honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month we FEATURE social justice activist Loretta June Ross. She is a co-founder and the former National Coordinator of the SisterSong Women of Color Reproductive Health Collective, a network founded in 1997 of 80 women of color and allied organizations that work on reproductive justice issues to fulfill a need for a national network that would organize women of color in the reproductive justice movement.

Wolfe Chair in Scientific and Technological Literacy (Asst Professor in the Department of Art History and Communication Studies)

In response to recent reports of increased NSA surveillance, we FEATURE computer ethics expert E. Gabriella Coleman. She is the Wolfe Chair in Scientific and Technological Literacy at McGill University. Trained as an anthropologist, she teaches, writes, and researches on the ethics of computer hacking with a focus on open source software and the protest ensemble Anonymous. She reguarly comments on digital activism, surveillance, free speech and censorship on the news.

We FEATURE sexualized violence expert Lauren Wolfe in light of the highly publicized rape case in Maryville, Missouri. Lauren Wolfe is an award-winning journalist who has written for publications from The Atlantic to The Guardian. She is currently the director of WMC’s Women Under Siege, a project on sexualized violence in conflict. She serves on the advisory committee of the Nobel Women’s Initiative’s International Campaign to Stop Rape & Gender Violence in Conflict.

As the deadline to raise the government debt ceiling approaches, we SPOTLIGHT policy expert Heather Hurlburt. She is the Executive Director of the National Security Network, an organization whose priorities include working with political leaders, experts and advocates to create a safer, saner foreign policy. Previously, Hurlburt served in the Clinton Administration, both in the State Department and as a Special Assistant and Speechwriter to President Clinton. Hurlburt brings nearly two decades of experience developing, shaping and communicating US foreign policy.
