Rita Arens has been a prominent voice in eating disorder recovery online for the past ten years. Her young adult novel, THE OBVIOUS GAME (InkSpell Publishing, 2013) was called, “a fearless, honest, and intense look into the psychology of anorexia.” Arens has written about anorexia under the frames of dating, recovery, parenting and pregnancy, interviewing doctors and researchers in her chronicles. The deputy editor of BlogHer.com, Arens is a frequent speaker at blogging conferences and has appeared on local NPR radio and in the 2013 Kansas City Listen to Your Mother Show discussing her books, parenting, writing and recovery. Arens is also the editor of the NAPPA-award winning parenting anthology SLEEP IS FOR THE WEAK (Chicago Review Press, 2008) and holds a master’s degree in English from the University of Missouri – Kansas City’s professional writing program. Arens won a 2014 Writer’s Digest award and has been quoted in Forbes Woman, the Wall Street Journal and Businessweek.
