Bio

Janine A. Parry is university professor of political science emerita at the University of Arkansas. She also founded the Diane D. Blair Center’s annual Arkansas Poll in 1999 and directed it through 2024. The co-author of Women’s Rights in the USA and more than 50 other published works on subjects relating to women in politics, gender policy, state politics, and voter behavior, she has provided analysis to NPR, CNN, the BBC, the New York Times, and many other outlets. She has taught courses at the introductory through graduate level on topics including American Government, Women and Politics in the Contemporary South, Politics on Film, Arkansas Politics, Gender and Politics, and more, and has earned numerous teaching honors, including the Baum Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2016. From 2008-2011, she co-directed the Teaching and Faculty Support Center at the University of Arkansas, and from 2012-2014 she served as the elected Chair of the Campus Faculty/Faculty Senate. She earned her bachelor’s degree in political science from Western Washington University magna cum laude and her master’s and doctoral degrees in political science from Washington State University.
