Jo Lusby is the co-founder and CEO of Pixie B, an independent consultancy specialising in publishing, film, and the creative sector based in Hong Kong. Pixie B advises a range of businesses, organisations, and government bodies on commercial strategies, brand management, and market access. Pixie B also represents companies, filmmakers, authors, and other creatives wanting to build business, secure finance, and find partners and deals. Current corporate clients include Macmillan, Cambridge University, London Book Fair, Financial Times, Luxe Travel Guides, and the Swire Group.
A fluent Mandarin speaker and veteran publisher, Jo was North Asia Managing Director of the world’s largest consumer book publisher, Penguin Random House (and, prior to merger, Penguin Books) from 2005-2017. There, she set up and managed local operations in Beijing, Shanghai, Seoul, and Hong Kong. She established a market-leading, award-winning local publishing and sales business in English, Chinese, and Korean. Major prizes included Nobel for Literature, Edgar, Crime Writers’ Association, and Man Asia. Bestsellers included the #1 children’s hit Peppa Pig in Chinese and the autobiography of tennis sensation Li Na.
Jo is a high profile member of the regional business community. She is a director of the Hong Kong International Literary Festival and PEN Hong Kong. Jo is regularly quoted by international news outlets including the New York Times, The Guardian, and The Economist, as well as Quartz. She is a guest lecturer at Hong Kong PolyU, teaching business for creatives. She also works with mid-level and senior managers in multinational and international companies offering leadership development and strategic advice.
Jo is a mentor for Fruits in Suits and Educating Rural Girls in China. Jo is a qualified PADI Scuba Dive Master. Jo has lived in Asia since 1995, based in Japan, China, and, for the past 3 years, Hong Kong.
