Bio

Mildred Antenor is an author, social commentator and professor, who has appeared on, “PBS”, “CW-11 Morning News” Fox 5’s “Good Day Street Talk”, a public affairs program concentrating on today’s hot topics and “The O’Reilly Factor”. Mildred is frequently asked to give her professional perspective on hard-hitting issues by news broadcasters. Ms. Antenor’s book entitled, “The Gladioli Are Invisible: A Memoir” chronicles her life experiences of breaking down economic and racial barriers as a first generation Haitian-American woman while living in a drug-polluted neighborhood. You can also listen to her on “The WBGO Journal” on WBGO 88.3 FM radio where her commentaries focus on women’s matters. Some topics that she has discussed in the past include: body image and women’s attitudes towards hair, redefining female beauty standards, and how young girls need fathers who are emotionally present to help nurture their development.

Throughout her journalism career, Mildred has written, edited, and developed stories for publications, including The New York Times, Black Enterprise Magazine, The Village Voice and many more.
Ms. Antenor also served as a co-creator and co-host on WLIB with a weekly radio call-in talk show entitled L’Ecole Sans Mur (School Without Walls). This program focused on public activists including political, economic and social issues facing Haitian immigrants in the community.

Additionally, as a professor at Seton Hall University, Mildred is known for her ability to connect with her students and for generating thought-provoking substantive discussions in her classroom. Ms. Antenor’s students applaud her for teaching them the skill of stepping outside of the box and for thinking critically.

Mildred is a graduate of St. John’s University and has a master’s in liberal studies from Rutgers University. She is an award-winning commentator and holds memberships with New York Women in Communications, The New York Historical Society and served as a fundraiser with the MATRIX Awards development committee. The MATRIX Awards honors women who have made noteworthy contributions in the communications industry, past honorees include: Katie Couric, Whoopi Goldberg, Barbara Walters and Toni Moorison.

Ms. Antenor has worked as a board member and mentor with the Sandra and Glenn D. Cunningham Foundation. The organization mentored and awarded scholarships to college students who were financially challenged and needed close guidance throughout their college careers. Mildred is fluent in French and Haitian Creole. She loves a good joke, stimulating conversation and reading inspirational biographies. She also has a fascinating historical background; she has an ancestral cousin who was lost at sea on The Titanic.
