Born in South Carolina, Mary Going launched into a lifetime of activism starting when she formed the College of Charleston’s first queer-oriented student club. Her issue areas have included racial equity, LGBT rights, adoptee identity access, and economic equity. She has founded four businesses: she closed one, sold two, and is currently the founder/lead in a consulting firm that focuses on interim leadership and financial health in nonprofits. She holds an MBA from Mills College and has written and performed three one-woman shows. She lives in Oakland with her wife and two daughters.
