Grace Huang, J.D., is a senior policy advisor in state government. For 30 years, Ms. Huang has advocated on behalf of domestic and sexual violence survivors, Asian American and Pacific Islander communities, and immigrants. Previously, Ms. Huang served as the policy director at the Asian Pacific Institute on Gender-Based Violence, and led the policy program at a statewide domestic violence organization. Ms. Huang also previously practiced immigration law, as well as represented low-income individuals in a civil legal aid organization. Ms. Huang has worked on federal and state legislative and administrative policies to address the needs of victims, including on immigration legislation, the Violence Against Women Act, the Family Violence Services and Prevention Act, and the Victims of Crime Act. Ms. Huang is the author of the chapter of the impact of domestic violence on immigrant survivors in the Handbook of Interpersonal Violence and Abuse Across the Lifespan and edited the Washington State Domestic Violence Manual for Judges. She is a former appointed Commissioner on the President Biden’s Advisory Commission on Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders, and has served on the steering committee of the National Taskforce to End Sexual & Domestic Violence, the WA State Women’s Commission, & the WA State Gender & Justice Commission of the WA Supreme Court. She is the recipient of numerous awards for her work advancing the rights of domestic violence survivors and immigrants, including a 2015 American Bar Association Commission on Domestic and Sexual Violence 20/20 Vision award and the 2005 Washington State Bar Family Law Section “Professional” of the year award, and the 1999 Northwest Immigrant Rights Project Golden Door award. Ms. Huang has appeared in various media outlets including the Atlantic, the Hill, Huffington Post and NBCNews.com.
