Bio

Fiona Lowenstein (they/she) is an award-winning independent journalist, producer, speaker, and consultant covering health justice, media, and more. They are also the founder of Body Politic, a grassroots health justice organization at the forefront of the patient-led Long Covid movement. Fiona is also a Long COVID survivor – she contracted Covid-19 in March 2020 and wrote the first account of what we now call "Long COVID" in The New York Times that spring. Fiona has been covering the pandemic and Covid-19 patient issues for publications like The New York Times, Vox, The Guardian, Teen Vogue, Elemental, and The Columbia Journalism Review, among others. Fiona is the co-founder of Body Politic's COVID-19 Support Group on Slack, which houses close to 11K members and is one of the largest global private support groups for COVID patients and their caregivers. Fiona appears regularly on podcasts and news networks, including NPR, CNN, MSNBC, and BBC. Their work has been featured in Forbes, The Atlantic, BuzzFeed, Women’s Health, and GLAAD among other platforms. Fiona graduated from Yale cum laude with a BA in History, as a Yale Journalism Scholar. As the founder of an organization and an independent journalist herself, Fiona also leads a virtual community for independent journalists and creators via CUNY's Tow-Knight Center for Entrepreneurial Journalism.
