After qualifying as a consultant (attending physician) in general pediatrics in The Netherlands, Fieke moved to the United Kingdom to further her pediatric training in intensive care medicine. After having worked several years as a consultant in Paediatric Intensive Care Medicine, Fieke noticed that too often she saw children coming in with the same type of severe injuries.
She decided that she wanted to use her years of intensive care experience to inform parents of the predictable and therefore preventable nature of many serious, life-changing injuries in children. She had heard parents say so often “I wish I had known” that she decided to write a book for parents about this subject together with her colleague, burn surgeon, Marielle Vehmeijer.

The book 'Pas op, kijk uit!' was published by Spectrum/Unieboek in Holland in September 2014. It quickly rose into the top 40 book and was sold out in only 2 weeks.
Her knowledge of the prevention of childhood injury, both from a professional background as well as being a mum herself, could be helpful for every parent, grand-parent, child minder, nanny, (pre)school and anybody else who regularly comes in contact with children and who would like to protect them from serious injury.

She has three children, aged 7, 6 and 5 years.
