Bio

Elizabeth Krumbach Joseph works in the Systems division of IBM working on IBM Z, working with systems administrators like herself and developers to build out infrastructure solutions that span cloud, on-prem, and mainframes.

She has been involved in Free/Open Source software communities since 2002 and in that time has worked on everything from documentation to software packaging, and spent six years holding an elected position on the Ubuntu Community Council. In 2012 she was given an O'Reilly Open Source Award.

As a member of the Board of Directors for Partimus, a non-profit in the San Francisco Bay Area providing Linux-based computers to schools in need, she has worked with local schools and organizations to meet their technological needs. Participation in this organization also lead to working on a deployment of computers to Ghana, West Africa in the fall of 2012 with ComputerReach, based out of Pittsburgh, PA.

She is also the author The Official Ubuntu Book (8th & 9th editions) and Common OpenStack Deployments. She has also served as a technical editor for the Ubuntu Certified Professionals course produced by Canonical Ltd, the Linux Networking Cookbook published by O'Reilly, and A Practical Guide tO Ubuntu Linux.

Elizabeth regularly speaks at technical conferences, topics have included: Code Review for Systems Administrators, Open Source Continuous Integration Tools, Getting involved with Ubuntu and Open Source, and Getting Linux into Schools and Community Centers.
