Bio

Dr. Fontana is an assistant professor in the department of neurosurgery at North Shore-LIJ Hospital and the director of neurosurgery at Nassau University Medical Center. She is a graduate of Harvard College and received her medical degree from Columbia University in New York. She completed a surgery internship and residency in neurosurgery at Columbia University-New York Presbyterian hospital. Additionally, she completed a brain/spine tumor fellowship at the Swedish Neuroscience Institute where she became involved in several clinical trials for the treatment of glioblastomas and brain tumor metastases.

Dr. Fontana specializes in tumors of the brain and spine, including gliomas, meningiomas, schwannomas, and metastatic lesions; degenerative spine disease; intervertebral disc disease; hydrocephalus; and neuro-trauma. Dr. Fontana is based out of Nassau University Medical Center, with access to the latest technology in neuronavigation, spinal fusion techniques, neuroendoscopy, and stereotactic radiosurgery in the treatment of a wide range of neurosurgical problems.

She is an active member of the American Academy of Neurological Surgeons, the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, and the Christopher Reeve Foundation.
