Bio

I am a licensed clinical psychologist in Chicago, IL, specializing in medical trauma, integrated healthcare, and early intervention for posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). I have a PhD in Clinical Psychology and completed my doctoral and postdoctoral training in a range of medical settings, including acute and critical care (e.g., emergency departments, intensive care units), surgical specialties, acute rehabilitation, and end of life care.

I am an active leader in the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies (ISTSS) and currently serve as the Chair of the Membership Committee. My work focuses on the psychological impact of acute and chronic illness, early mental health interventions in hospital settings, and the integration of mental health services in medical care. I have published over 20 peer-reviewed articles and regularly present in professional settings and public forums.

Topics of Interest for Media Opportunities

I am available to discuss a range of issues at the intersection of trauma, healthcare, and mental health, including:

Medical Trauma in the Media – How films, TV, and news shape public understanding of medical trauma and its psychological impact

Patient-Provider Relationships – The power of medical interactions as a protective or risk factor for trauma, and how providers can reduce harm

Trauma-Informed Healthcare – Why integrating trauma-focused interventions into medical settings is critical for patient wellbeing and recovery

Mental Health Interventions in Hospitals – The role of early psychological support for patients, families, and healthcare workers in medical settings

I bring expertise in translating clinical and research insights into engaging, accessible conversations that resonate with both professionals and the public.
