As an Independent Director, Joanna Dodd Massey, Ph.D., MBA, has experience serving on Boards during the most challenging times, including major crises, whistleblower complaints, public-facing lawsuits and M&A transactions. She is a trusted and objective Director who serves as a sounding board for Chairmen providing them with solid guidance on corporate governance and change management.
Dr. Massey currently serves as a Board Director for KULR Technology Group (NYSE:KULR), where she is Chair of the Nominating & Governance Committee, as well as a member of the Audit and Compensation Committees. She is also an Independent Director on the Board of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association serving on the M&A and Crisis Committees. In addition, she is on the Advisory Board of 8B Education Investments, a for-profit business providing innovative student-financing products for African students studying abroad. She is also on the Advisory Board of The Resolution Project, a nonprofit organization providing seed funding and access to global advisory resources for undergraduate students with entrepreneurial ventures that promote social good. Formerly, she served on the Board of Directors of the following 501(c)(3) organizations: The Resolution Project as a member of the Audit committee; the University of Southern California New York Alumni Club as a member of the Executive Board; and Colors LGBTQ Youth Counseling Services.
Dr. Massey spent more than 25 years as an in-house communications executive working in the media and digital technology industries at Condé Nast, Lionsgate, CBS, Viacom, Discovery and Hasbro. She is a corporate spokesperson and has handled quarterly reporting, M&A transactions, brand reputation management and external and internal communication across multiple territories, including the United States, UK, Europe, India and China.
Currently, Dr. Massey is a communications consultant to senior management, as well as Founder & CEO of the Marketing Communications Think Tank, a B-Corp with a mission to shift the way we communicate about politicized social issues so diverse groups of people can have a constructive discussion. She is also a sought-after corporate speaker for companies, including Uber, Capital One, LVMH and NBCUniversal, and the author of two books, Culture Shock: Surviving Five Generations in One Workplace and Communicating During a Crisis: Influencing Others When the Stakes Are High.
Dr. Massey’s education includes multiple degrees in both business and psychology, including a Doctorate in Psychology with an Emphasis in Transpersonal Psychology from Sofia University; a Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University, Los Angeles; a Master’s in Business Administration from USC; and a Graduate Certificate in Corporate Finance from Harvard. While receiving her psychology degrees, Dr. Massey served as a therapist in a community clinic and then as a personal coach working with individual clients and holding public workshops to help people recognize conditioned thinking and achieve higher levels of personal and professional success.
