Yes, There Are Female Experts / Si, Hay Expertas

Two day workshop hosted by Instituto de Estudios de Género de la Universidad Carlos III de Madrid to share and discuss experiences that successfully promote gender balance and diversity in media, particularly when it comes to expert sources.

Kate McCarthy, Director of Programs for the Women's Media Center presented a session:

Working to Make Women and Girls More Visible and Powerful in Media in the U.S.

The U.S. news landscape is dominated by white men. Why does that matter and what the Women’s Media Center is doing to raise the visibility, viability, and decision-making power of women and girls in media to ensure that our stories get told and our voices are heard.

And participated in a panel discussion with three Spanish journalists:

Paloma Zamorano. Holds a degree in Information Sciences and Master in Radio from the Complutense University of Madrid. She has worked at Radio Nacional de España since 1980, as Head of Content, and since 2018 as Equality Editor.

Isabel Valdés Aragonés. Gender correspondent for EL PAÍS, before working for Health in Madrid, where she covered the pandemic. She specializes in feminism and sexual violence and wrote 'Raped or dead', about the case of La Manada and the feminist movement. She has a degree in Journalism from the Complutense and holds a Master In Journalism from UAM-EL PAÍS.

Fernando Garea, born in Madrid in 1962. Deputy Director of El Español and collaborator as a political analyst in television programs (Telecinco, TVE and La Sexta) and radio (Cadena Ser). Former director and founder of El Periódico de España, president of the EFE Agency, deputy to the director of El Confidencial and Público, editor-in-chief of El País and El Mundo.
